Client Testimonials

"My experience with the midwives and their assistants at Riverside Midwifery in Charles Town was like nothing I had ever come across in the UK. Liz, Nannette, Zaina, Shanna and Antonette made every appointment seem special. They never rushed anything, they were always willing to discuss anything and everything, and they all seemed genuinely excited as the weeks ticked by and December approached. I had a great pregnancy and felt at peace and excited ..."

"My homebirth VBAC was the most amazing and empowering experience of my life. My birthing team trusted me and my body from the very first day, to the moment my daughter was brought earthside. I believe in the Midwifery Model of Care, for every woman. It treats women and their families with dignity during a time that is so personal and special. I am thankful for the amazing care not only I recieved, but my family as well. Liz O'Shea gave me something back, and I am forever grateful."

" Throughout my pregnancy and labor, Liz treated me and my husband with care and respect. She made me feel confident in her knowledge and expertise, and in my body's own capabilities. Giving birth to my son at home was one of the most difficult and amazing things I have ever done, and Liz and her team made it possible. Liz was also our best source of guidance when our baby had jaundice during his first week."

"Choosing Riverside Midwifery was the pivotal decision that allowed my husband and I to have the birth experience we wanted.  After experiencing resistance and even judgement from our former doctor's office when describing the type of pregnancy and birth we wanted for our daughter, we decided to look for a better option, and were so pleased to find Nannette.  Our home birth was everything we wanted it to be, and I am so grateful that we were able to give our daughter the best entry into this world that we could."-Kim G.

Dear Ellana,
Your Mommy and Daddy love you so much and we are so excited to meet you soon.  Ever since we first found out that you were on your way we have been busy getting ready for your arrival.  We’ve taken classes to learn how to best eat and live to ensure that you have a healthy and safe development.
We learned what it would be like as you are making your arrival into our world.  We decided that in order to give you the healthiest and safest arrival possible that we would put all of our effort into making sure a natural birth would be possible.  A lot of people have commended us for this decision, but warned us how much more difficult it would be for us.  You are our first baby, so we do not truly know how hard a natural birth may or may not be, but what we do know is that the level of difficulty to us is not a fair measure of whether or not it should be done.

The idea of allowing you to enter the world in your own time and without drugs or other unnecessary interventions is of such a high value to us that it is worth the hard work.  We still don’t know what is ahead, but we know that if it remains possible, we will do everything we can do to see that you have the best introduction into this world that we can provide.

These are the things that are important to us for your birth.

Home Setting - Not just for Mommy’s comfort, but so we have the opportunity to care for you ourselves after the birth, to not be separated from you and have others spend the first precious moments of your life with you.  We are excited to have no interruptions in that vital bonding time, and feel so honored that we can be personally involved in every aspect of your care from the very beginning.
No Medications - Mommy’s body is healthier without them and so is yours.  It is not fair for us to choose induction or pain medications to make the process easier or more convenient for us when they can have such a bad effect on not only the birth experience, but on the level of health that you start your life with.

God’s Timing - One of the reasons we chose the wonderful midwife that we did to help us bring you into this world is because we did not want a Doctor and a “Guess Date” to determine when you were ready to be born.  As long as you and Mommy are healthy and not at risk, we will wait for you to decide that.

Breastfeeding - God gave your Mom the ability to provide the best nutrition for you to start and to grow.  Mommy promises to be persistent and patient with the discomfort and challenges involved, seeking advice and coaching if necessary to make sure we are successful at this crucial bond.

Chiropractic Care - Birth is hard on you too, so we will make sure that we have your spine checked as soon as possible after the birth to make sure that your nervous system is able to keep your body developing as it should.  We want your immune system to be strong and your body to have the best start possible.

Natural Pediatrics - As you make your start in life, we want to be sure we do not tamper with the miracle that God has made in you.  We are researching the many vaccines and medications that are so commonly given to infants and young children and we will protect you from those that we see as possibly dangerous or unnecessary.  God designed your body to self heal and self regulate, and we will do everything we can to not tamper with, but help that process.  With whatever medical concerns that may arise, we will do our best to discover and pursue the methods that are both safe and effective, regardless if they are less convenient or more expensive.
