CPM Licensure in Maryland |
"If you don't know your options, you dont have any"- Diana Korte, A Good Birth, A Safe BirthA CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) is a highly skilled and knowledgable professional midwifery practioner and is an expert in out-of-hospital births. Standards for CPM certification is set forth by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). The guiding principles of a CPM's practice is to work with women in their community to promote a healthy pregnancy and provide education to help women make informed decisions about their care. A CPM works together with the mother to carefully monitor the progress of their pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum period. At Riverside Midwifery LLC we provide midwifery services with both a CPM and a CNM. Our CPM's hold licenses in surrounding states that currently offer their state consumers the right to choose a safe out of hospital birth provider legally. Sadly, the state of Maryland does not provide its mothers and families the same choice. Our CPM's, when working in Maryland work side by side with our CNM as a Midwife's Assistant to help create a complete circle of care within the Midwifery Model and still bring the CPM training and knowledge to the table. We are currently working hard in Maryland to pass a bill to give you, the consumers, the right to CHOOSE your out of hospital birth provider. Maryland Families for Safe Birth is grassroots non profit consumer driven advocacy organization. MFSB’s mission is to ensure the health and wellbeing of Maryland families by expanding access to the evidence-based maternity care provided by Certified Professional Midwives. In order to meet this mission MFSB will introduce legislation to recognize licensure of Certified Professional Midwives and regulate their practice of midwifery. MFSB will monitor and deter legislation that would be detrimental to families and care providers who choose out-of-hospital birth. MFSB will also support organizations who offer, through education and other means, information, support, and advocacy regarding the midwifery model of care. It is the intention of MFSB to introduce a bill in the next legislative session, January 2012. In order to meet their mission the organization will: Sign our petition today to call into action the licensing of Certified Professional Midwives in Maryland: http://signon.org/sign/license-certified-profession.fb23?source=s.icn.fb&r_by=7114628 Follow advocacy updates and join MFSB on Facebook
