“After 5 hours of pushing (if I’m remembering correctly – it was a long time) at close to 2:30pm Emily was born. I remember feeling her head come out and then the rest of her body. She was here! She was placed on my chest immediately. It took a few moments for me to be positioned in such a way so I could actually see her and what she looked like. Oh sweet perfect baby girl. She was here and she was beautiful. And her birth was amazing and so hard.” Lauren S. Emily’s birth story
“I’m sure I’ve left out something good, beautiful, important or got some of the details in the wrong order or mixed up. What I do know is that Winfield’s birth was amazing. It was beautiful. I learned things in Emily’s birth that I was able to use in his birth. In the places I needed healing, I was healed. Aaron, my love, was the best birth partner, and I had the most amazing birth team ever! seriously! The team came into our sacred space with a shared sacred presence and intention and trust in birth. I felt supported and loved and safe. I used the tools I’ve learned throughout life the last few years – breath, dance/movement, laughter, stillness. I looked inside for answers and sought support and guidance outside from the team. It was beautiful and our boy is amazing and beautiful and the sweetest of souls. I’m again so honored that these precious and amazing souls chose me to be their mama.” Lauren S. Winfield’s birth story
“I had an unplanned home birth which during the time it was happening was crazy and chaotic and I went into shock after the baby arrived. But my next home birth was my perfect birth. My husband and I bonded so much more during that time. It was relaxing, peaceful, and amazing!” April P.
” This was our 4th home-birth, second with Riverside, and I just can’t say enough about the midwives and birthing assistants here! It was such a wonderful, peaceful, and even RELAXING day (and yes, my wife will tell you that too). There was always someone attending my wife when she needed it, yet they gave us our space as well. They were all so professional, caring, calm, knowledgeable, and considerate. I can’t imagine how much more difficult this would have been for my wife had we gone to a hospital, and I always felt that we were in great hands medically as well.” Brian T. homebirth dad
“Elowen’s birth was so different from Loki’s birth. It came on strong and fast. There was no time to prepare, no build up. It was a little overwhelming at times, but I never felt like I couldn’t do it, especially knowing that Nannette and Grace were there. It was such an empowering and healing experience. I can’t even say how much it means to me to have been able to have those two amazing women at both of my labors and almost both of my births. I am more grateful than I can say (to Nannette, to Grace, to Dan, to Justine, and to my own body & mind).”

“To put it bluntly … I am incredibly proud of the way I birthed our daughter. It was amazing and natural and primal and instinctual and intimate and powerful and joyful, and I couldn’t wish for a better birth story for her.”
Saoirse’s Birth Story
Jenn B., daughter Saoirse Anne born at home on February 25, 2013.
“My experience with the midwives and their assistants at Riverside Midwifery in Charles Town was like nothing I had ever come across in the UK. Liz, Nannette, Zaina, Shanna and Antonette made every appointment seem special. They never rushed anything, they were always willing to discuss anything and everything, and they all seemed genuinely excited as the weeks ticked by and December approached. I had a great pregnancy and felt at peace and excited …“

“Choosing Riverside Midwifery was the pivotal decision that allowed my husband and I to have the birth experience we wanted. After experiencing resistance and even judgement from our former doctor’s office when describing the type of pregnancy and birth we wanted for our daughter, we decided to look for a better option, and were so pleased to find Nannette. Our home birth was everything we wanted it to be, and I am so grateful that we were able to give our daughter the best entry into this world that we could.”-Kim G.
“All the women here are too amazing for words! I had our fifth baby at home in September 2015 with these ladies and they were incredible
“Wonderful team of Midwives. I felt so comfortabl
“I feel so lucky to have had Nannette attend the beautiful birth of my son last year. The continuity of care I experienced before, during, and after his birth were nothing short of exceptional. And now, as a birth worker I feel so privileged to work alongside Nannette and the other wonderful midwives at Riverside as they provide such careful, compassionate care to the women of our community.” – Julie M.
“Nannette attended both of my daughters births. I had really wanted to have a home birth, but had several concerns. Nannette was great about giving me all the information I needed to move forward comfortably with my home birth plan. The team was very well equipped to handle the postpartum hemorrhage I had, as well as some breathing problems my baby had at first. I would recommend Nannette to anyone choosing a midwife or planning a home birth.” – Holly K.
“One on one midwifery care which is above and beyond anything else. Thank you thank you for trusting me to birth my babies and make me feel supported both before, during and after birth!” – Lindsey W.
“And then the head was out. We rushed to get out of the pool as it wasn’t done filling (try getting out of a tub with a head between your legs) and I put my hands on the side of the bed and out came the baby. I pulled baby up to me. And then looked to find a penis. Except there was no penis. Holy moly, we have a third girl! She was so slippery and slimy and yet so delicious and amazing and beautiful. I was in so much shock that I had actually done it. She latched on right away and we just laid skin to skin and I stared at this amazing amazing new baby. I couldn’t believe how much I loved her. I couldn’t believe that I had done it. That my body DOES labor. That it DOES birth. This amazing new BIG baby. Grace weighed her and as I saw her strain to pull her into the air in the scale, I knew she was big. And then this: “Ten pounds, fourteen ounces.” My first labor, about 5.5 hours long, and out came an almost eleven pound baby girl: Charlotte Elise.” April B. Charlotte’s birth story
